RACING AT THE RICHMOND GO-KART TRACK

Richmond, British Columbia
by Susie Lee

World's First Little Car

In the corner of his garage, Art Ingels, who built famous Indy racing cars, saw surpluses of two stroke cycle engines not being used. So he decided to build a little car out of the scrap metal and leftover engine. He designed this car to get around the pits and garage area where he worked at Kurtis Kraft. Unknowingly, he ingeniously created an invention that can be enjoyed for generations to come.

He got a lot of attention when he drove his little car in public, with strangers making comments or inquisitively asking about his contraption. Friends who tried his invention would boast about how unbelievably fun it was! This ingenuity quickly became a hit in North America and spread over to Europe. It has now been over fifty years since Ingels developed the world's first little car, known as the go-kart. Today, Art Ingels is known as 'the father of karting'. Since then, thousands of kids and adults have been able to experience the art of racing without having to qualify as a professional race car driver.

RACING

The Richmond Go-Kart Track is great place for family fun. Both children and adults can enjoy the experience of being a race car driver. It is a fast, fun, exciting and challenging experience! Whether you are an Indy Car Racing enthusiast or not, you will be sure to get your adrenaline pumping as you speed down straight-aways and hairpin turns at this outdoor track. The Richmond Go-Kart Track prides itself in being the best family go-kart track in the Greater Vancouver area.

Racing around the half mile course at the track is an exhilarating experience. With the wind in my face and sound of the engine roaring, I felt carefree maneuvering through curves while weaving in and out of other drivers without having to worry about getting a speeding ticket.
